From the sanctuary (1,520 m) take path E5 as far as the Pichlwiese meadow. Continuing along the forest road through the Koser valley, go across cross-country ski trails and then head towards a clearing on the picturesque mountainside, finally reaching the Capanna Nuova mountain hut (1,791 m). This is the highest point of the hike and enjoys views of the Catinaccio and Latemar mountains.

Snow is not just about skiing. In fact, Pietralba is an ideal place to discover picturesque mountain huts and Dolomite peaks at a slower pace on foot. From here, trails lead through snow-covered meadows and lonely forests, past frozen lakes and unspoilt nature that still fill your heart despite the fact they are covered in snow.

Let your snowshoes sink into the white blanket of snow. Follow prepared trails through woods and snow-covered meadows to reach the Dolomite rock faces. Breathe in the scents of nature. The snowy surroundings generate emotions within us, which do not fade over time and are of great benefit to our health.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Pietralba winter hiking trail takes you to the Schönrast and Schmieder mountain huts enjoying the everpresent view of the white Dolomite peaks and forests covered in a blanket of snow. At the Schönrast mountain hut you can let your fingers thaw over a hot chocolate. Those who still have strength in their legs can follow the trail to the Schmieder mountain hut. However, this remains closed from mid-December to the end of March.

Taking path 1 again through meadows and larch and fir woods, descend towards the Laab mountain hut (1,648 m). After a level stretch through the woods, you arrive at Monte S.Pietro mountain hut (1,529 m). Following a slight descent, cross a bridge and return to the starting point.
